Periodontitis: Your Gums' Worst Enemy
Healthy gums are very important for healthy teeth.
Any inflammation of your gums or your periodonal apparatus (periodontitis) can damage your bite and even cause you to lose teeth. To prevent this from happening, we take steps to stop the process, thus restoring your dental health for the long haul.
Plaque that is not removed daily will eventually harden into calculus or tartar. The tissue in turn becomes irritated and inflammed. This early stage is called gingivitis and is reversible. If left untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontal disease. Ultimately bone loss and tooth mobility can result. Early intervention is vital and gum surgery can be avoided.
